Bangor Savings Bank is warning its customers about a current automated phone scam seeking Bangor Savings Bank customer card numbers. The Bank reminds customers to protect themselves by never giving out card numbers, account numbers or PINs (Personal Identification Numbers) over the phone or otherwise to someone claiming to be from the bank.
Bank customers and non-customers have reported that they have received automated phone messages asking them to provide card numbers because their card has been blocked or compromised. The phone messages are not from the Bank. At this time all indications are that it does not involve a customer privacy breach at the Bank, but appears instead to be a mass auto-dialing effort to randomly hit Bank customers in local telephone exchanges.
Customers are reminded that they should never provide account numbers, PINs, or security codes over the phone or otherwise to anyone claiming to be from their bank. Bangor Savings Bank, its subsidiaries and affiliates, will never send you an email, text message, or voice mail message requesting your personal or account information (such as social security numbers, account numbers or PINs).
Customers are urged to contact Bangor Savings Bank immediately if they have given out their card number, account number or PIN information over the telephone in response to a voicemail or telemarketer. Bangor Savings Bank can be reached through e-mail at CustomerCare@bangor.com or by phone at 1.877.Bangor1 (226-4671).
