Samsung Pay

What is Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay allows you to pay for purchases using a Samsung supported device with either NFC (Near Field Communication) OR MST (Magnetic Strip Transmission) capability. MST is a mobile wallet technology that allows for a contactless payment to be made at terminals that do not feature NFC. MST sends a magnetic signal from your device to the merchant’s terminal (to emulate swiping a physical card). MST technology is accepted at nearly all payment terminals with a card reader.

^ top

How does Samsung Pay work?

With Samsung Pay, your actual card information isn’t being sent when making a transaction. Instead, Samsung Pay uses tokenization to process the payment with the merchant by substituting the card's number with a unique alphanumeric identifier, generated using proprietary algorithms. The unique identifier, or token, is then used for sending the transaction to the card's payment network, where it is decrypted and the transaction authorized. The actual card number is stored in a secure vault (with the payment processor or bank) and does not reside on the merchant's or Samsung's systems.
