FUNCTION: Originates all types of consumer loans, including personal, auto, home equity, mortgage and micro-business. Assists in daily branch operations and new accounts duties as needed. The Retail Loan Officer possesses a thorough understanding of credit delivery and administration and a sound working knowledge of Bangor Savings Bank’s policies and procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Loan Origination:
- Originates direct loans and provides customer service for general consumer lending, small business, mortgage lending, personal loans, home improvement loans, and other products as appropriate
- Interviews applicants to help identify their financial needs
- Obtains and analyzes all necessary financial and credit information
- Evaluates the information and approves or rejects applications within set limits
- Informs customers of decisions, negotiates rates and terms, and ensures that funds are disbursed and loans are documented properly
- Develops and originates small business loans within the guidelines of BSB policy
- Performs construction project management and contractor and developer calling
- Services referrals from internal business partners to maximize the customer experience
Credit Origination:
- Coordinate and oversee the loan preparation process while working with direct team members and Credit Department to ensure a timely and expedited approval
- Oversee the loan documentation and delivery process including commitment letter preparation negotiation, and acceptance; appraisal, environmental and legal documentation and review, and the loan closing
Administration / Other:
- Maintains a current working knowledge of secondary market requirements, MSHA and VHA guidelines and other applicable program procedures and regulations
- Maintains solid and effective working relationships with internal Loan Operations and Retail personnel
- Coordinates activities with Branch Manager and other Bank personnel as appropriate
- Supports Branch Manager by assisting with account opening, servicing issues or other operational needs
- May assume responsibility of the branch in the absence of management
Development Activities:
- Develops and manages referral sources outside of Bangor Savings Bank
- Cross sells other Bank products and services to customers
- Engages in business development activities using customer data and external calling
- Identifies prospects / customers for cross sales opportunities and refers to business partners accordingly
- Represents the bank by becoming involved in various civic/charitable organizations, participating in community events

- Assists in ensuring that the Bank complies with local, state and federal regulations.
General:
- Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of bank goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
- Conforms to acceptable punctuality/attendance standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelors degree helpful
- 3 or more years banking or credit related experience
- Excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrated personal computer literacy
- Ability to handle complex problems
- Strong communications skills, verbal and written
- Previous sales experience / training
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with an ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management
- Proactive and self-motivated, with good selling and business development skills

- General office environment
- Moderate lifting (to 35 lbs.) required. Moderate reaching, walking, sitting and standing required
