Helping feed those in need is as easy as (blueberry) pie

August 22, 2018
BANGOR, Maine – Since April, the Bangor Savings Bank Buoy Local program has collaborated with a brewery and an ice cream maker to raise money for organizations that help Mainers in need. Buoy Local is continuing that trend with a month-long partnership with Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery to raise money for the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine.

How can you help? It’s as easy as pie.

Now through Sept. 16, for every slice of blueberry pie purchased at all six Governor’s locations $2.00 will be donated to Good Shepherd Food Bank. The $2.00 donation will be provided by Buoy Local, Governor’s, Alexander’s Wild Maine Blueberries, and Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream. Governor’s has locations in Presque Isle, Old Town, Bangor, Ellsworth, Waterville, and Lewiston.

Governor’s blueberry pie is a seasonal favorite made from scratch at each Governor’s bakery. Top a slice with a scoop of Gifford’s Wild Maine Blueberry ice cream to make it an extra sweet treat.

“It’s pretty hard to leave a Governor’s Restaurant without trying one of their delicious pies,” said Bangor Savings Bank President and CEO Bob Montgomery-Rice. “We’re proud to partner with Governor’s as we continue our support for Maine’s food pantries and the folks who rely on them.”

Said Randy Wadleigh, CEO of Governor's Restaurants, "We're always looking to help out worthy causes in our communities, and this opportunity to partner with our friends at Gifford’s Ice Cream, Alexander’s Wild Maine Blueberries, and Buoy Local/Bangor Savings Bank to help benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank by selling our homemade Blueberry Pie was a no brainer."

Buoy Local previously collaborated with Geaghan Brothers Brewing Co. for Good Shepherd Food Bank fundraisers in the Bangor area and Portland with the limited edition Buoy207 beer.

The Bangor Savings Bank program also partnered with Gifford’s for a Maine Wild Blueberry ice cream fundraiser that supported local summer school hot lunch programs.

Governor’s, Alexander’s Wild Maine Blueberries, and Gifford’s are three of more than 500 Maine-owned Buoy Local businesses that provide special deals and discounts to customers through the Buoy Local App. Consumers can use the Buoy Local Card at participating Buoy Local businesses and earn reward points that can be redeemed at any Buoy Local business. Buoy Local Cards are available at all Bangor Savings Bank branches in Maine or, or online at Buoylocal.com.
