Ice Cream for a Cause: Buoy Local, Gifford's partner to help summer lunch program

July 18, 2018
BANGOR, Maine – What’s better than ice cream on a hot summer day? Knowing that each
scoop you order helps a Maine child with food insecurity.

Bangor Savings Bank’s Buoy Local community program and Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream have partnered for Ice Cream for a Cause, July 14-31, to raise funds for local summer hot lunch programs. During the two-week event, 25 cents from every scoop of Gifford’s Maine Wild Blueberry ice cream will be donated to a hot lunch program to help fund meals for children with food insecurity.

“Gifford’s is a great Maine success story and a business that shares our commitment to supporting local communities,” said Bangor Savings Bank President and CEO Bob Montgomery-Rice. “No child should have to wonder when their next meal will come, and we are proud to help hot lunch programs that provide meals when school is out.”

The Ice Cream for a Cause event will happen at Gifford’s company ice cream stands in Auburn, Bangor, Farmington, Skowhegan and Waterville. Five other businesses that serve Gifford’s ice cream will also take part: Dairy Frost in Brunswick, Peter Ott’s in Camden, Blueberry Hill Dairy Bar in Ellsworth, The Dairy Corner in Scarborough, and Pat’s Pizza in Yarmouth.

Gifford’s is one of more than 400 Maine-owned businesses, including local shops, restaurants, breweries, service providers, accommodations and more, that are part of the Buoy Local coalition. Buoy Local businesses accept the Buoy Local Card*, and create exclusive offers and discounts to reward and attract customers through the new Buoy Local App.

The App for Apple and Android phones tracks points earned when consumers use their Buoy Local Card, shows nearby Buoy Local businesses, a card balance and transaction history. Cards can be purchased at Bangor Savings Bank branches in greater Bangor, greater Portland, Camden, Rockland and Belfast, or online at Buoylocal.com.
