FAQs
What is pling?
pling is a banking, budgeting, and payment card program designed to introduce teens to personal financial responsibility and independence, while simplifying money movement for parents and guardians.
How does pling work?
Parents/guardians sign up for pling by downloading the app2, linking a checking account or debit card and adding teens to their profile. You can then order a card for your teen, send funds, and manage activity.
What is the minimum age for teens to participate in pling?
Teens must be at least 13 years of age.
How much does pling cost?
pling has a monthly fee of $3.99, which we are pleased to be temporarily waiving for our early adopters. Bangor Savings Bank will notify you in advance about any changes to our fee schedule. For more information about pling fees, please reference the pling User Agreement.
Can I share my pling account with another parent/guardian?
Only one pling parent/guardian is allowed to access the pling account. Each pling account is tied to one mobile phone number and can only be logged in on one device.
How do I check the balance in my family wallet?
Upon login, you will see the most current family wallet balance, as well as balances for any teen cards you manage.
How do I set my teen’s card PIN?
There is no PIN for the prepaid card unless you choose to set one. To set your teen's card PIN, go to the pling app2, click on 'Manage' under your teen's card image, and then select 'Change card PIN.' From there, you can create or change the PIN for your teen's card.
How long will it take for my card to arrive?
Your pling card should arrive within 7-10 business days at no cost to you!
Can my teen take cash out of an ATM?
No, ATM transactions are disabled for pling cards. This allows you, the parent/guardian, to remain in control of their spending and ensure visibility into each transaction.
If I notice an error regarding a transaction, how do I notify you?
Please call us at 1.877.226.4671 or email bangorsupport@bangor.com. You can find this information in the app2 by selecting the gear icon from the home page, and then choosing ‘Help’.
How do I delete my pling account?
Please complete this form to request to have your data and account information deleted from the pling app2.
What if my teen doesn’t have a phone?
No problem! Even if your teen doesn't have a phone, they can still use the pling card for purchases. The app2 is not required for making transactions with the card.
Why not just get my teen a regular debit card?
pling offers features, like budgets and spending categories that help teens learn how to manage their money effectively. Additionally, pling provides a safe and controlled environment for teens to make purchases, both online and in stores, while giving parents peace of mind. These features go beyond what a regular debit card offers, providing valuable education and oversight for teens who may be just beginning their financial journey.
Does pling come with overdraft protection?
You can only spend or transfer the amount of money available in your account or on your teen's card. If there aren't enough funds, the transaction will usually be declined. However, if a transaction goes through despite insufficient funds due to a system error or other issue, you are still responsible for covering the transaction amount.
