Bangor, ME (June 10, 2026): The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation is proud to announce the 2026 Community Matters More grant recipients, awarding more than $155,000 to 44 nonprofit organizations across Maine and New Hampshire. Now in its 19th year, Community Matters More, a program of The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation, directly engages the public in grant awards. This April, the annual, community-driven program invited voters to help determine how funding is distributed, supporting nonprofits addressing a wide range of community needs—from access to basic necessities and housing to survivor services and veteran support, health and wellness, and the arts.

Among the 2026 grant recipients is Maine Needs in Portland, Maine. A $5,000 grant recipient, Maine Needs distributes essential goods such as clothing, shoes, household items, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products at no cost to individuals and families in need. The organization serves a broad population, including immigrant families, veterans, and individuals transitioning into stable housing.

In Bangor, Empty Arms of Greater Bangor, a $3,500 grant recipient, provides grief support to families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. Through peer support groups, remembrance ceremonies, and memorial items, the organization offers both emotional support and tangible ways for families to honor their children.

Thrive Survivor Support Center in Concord, New Hampshire, also received a $3,500 grant to deliver comprehensive support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, elder abuse, stalking, and human trafficking. Its work includes emergency shelter, advocacy, support groups, community education, and a 24-hour hotline to provide both immediate safety and ongoing support for individuals and families.

“Behind every vote is someone recognizing the work of a nonprofit that’s making a difference in their community,” said Gavin Robinson, Senior Vice President, Community Relations Manager and Public Finance Officer at Bangor Savings Bank. “Each year, that collective support helps ensure these funds reach the people and families who count on these services every day.”
